The autumn term is well underway with a feast of rugby, football, cross country and netball Latest news Congratulations to Sam Richards (Yr 6) who has been selected to represent the Bridgend District Schools Under 11 rugby team this season.
Our year 5 and 4 boys demonstrated some great all round handling skills at a recent Tag Rugby Festival held at Cathedral School. They won all 3 of their matches! ((pic))
Last week we welcomed over 100 children from neighbouring schools to our Sports festival. Rugby and netball matches were played in glorious sunshine. Playing against much bigger schools our children played with great commitment and to a very high standard. We hope to offer similar type festivals with different age in the coming months as it works so well in our wonderful school grounds!
Our Under 11 teams were in action against Porthcawl PS on
Friday 3rd Oct. Boys from years 6, 5 & 4 represented the school.
Our teams ran in a number of tries to win both games. Some marvellous running
and handling skills were on show.
This week our under 16 girls attended a netball tournament at Cynffig CS
winning both their matches against Archbishop McGrath and Ynysawdre CS. Pick of
the day was Danielle Thomas who reached the final trial.
Our 3 Under 11 teams were in action against Porthcawl PS
on Friday. Girls from years 6 & 5 represented the school. All three teams
were victorious displaying some excellent passing and teamwork.
Over 30 senior school students ran in their respective age groups at the
1st Bridgend Schools league meeting held at Pencoed CS. There were
some outstanding individual performances. Notable top 20 placings:
Year 7 girls: Rosie McDonald 4th, Gabrielle Tracy 14th,
Briony Heard 15th & Ellie Brown 19th.
Year 7 boys: Jak D’Argie 5th, Mattie Gash 19th.
Year 8/9 girls: Hannah Dawkins 18th.
Year 8/9 boys: Tom Dalton 20th.
A tremendous run was put in by Aneela Khaliq (Yr 12) in the senior
girls category who came 1st in that event by a long way!
Bridgend Junior Schools Cross Country League – Saturday 4th October
A huge well done to all those pupils (and parents) who braved the cold
and rain at last Saturday’s 1st cross country meeting of the season.
There was a fantastic turnout with pupils
from years 2 to 6 representing St Clare’s.
For the record, the following pupils should be extremely proud of their
achievements:
Year 2 Joe
James and Imogen Thomas,
Year 3 Kate
Layland, George Neeson & Rebecca Owen
Year 4 Chris
Matthews, Harry Provstgaard, Ben Collins & Lance Burn
Year 5 Grace Collier, Charlotte
Owen, Jessica Bennett, Rebecca James, Charlie Jones & Sophie Dalton
Year 6 Harriet Collins, Amelia
Hodges, Sam Jones, Zoe Nash, Olivia Thomas & Amy Williams
With approximately
80 children competing in each race from schools in Bridgend Borough outstanding
performances worthy of a mention:
Year 4/3 Boys Lance Burn 3rd, Chris
Matthews 5th, Ben Collins 12th & Harry Provstgaard 15th.
Year 6/5 Boys Sam
Jones finished strongly in 2nd pushing his brother Charlie Jones
into 3rd
Year 6/5 Girls
Olivia Thomas 13th and Zoe Nash 14th
With the next race on the 15th November at Cynffig CS it would be
fantastic to see more numbers join the 21 who competed on Saturday!
